Winter School "Ethics and Neuroscience" 2018

The 7th Winter School "Ethics and Neuroscience is taking place on February 19 - 23, 2018. It is organized by the BCCN Berlin/ICCN and the Berlin School of Mind and Brain. The event is tailored for MSc and PhD students, but covers a range of topics of potential interest to other researchers, reflecting on the ethical and societal consequences of modern neuroscience.

Theoretical foundations, as well as practical and ethical aspects are addressed. Participants will benefit from a combination of lectures with group work and final presentations, where they will put the learned content into practice.

Scientific coordinators of the Winter School are John-Dylan Haynes and Thomas Schmidt. The keynote lecture "Early life Origins of Mental Health" will be given by Claudia Buß (Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin). The school offers two parallel tracks: The Philosophical Track focuses on theoretical aspects, metaethics and moral responsibility. The Empirical Track offers theoretical foundations as well as a number of practical ethical aspects in neuroscience, such as animal research, clinical practice, deep brain stimulation, neuroenhancement, brain reading, neurolaw, good scientific practice, and ethics committees.
