List of Principal Investigators for Pre-Doc internships
These principle investigators have projects for potential doctoral students:
Prof. Dr. Marina Mikhaylova
Project Title: Mechanisms of axon-carrying dendrite neuron formation and network integration
Summary: Axon-carrying dendrite (AcD) neurons are a unique class of excitatory neurons in which the axon emerges from a dendrite rather than the soma, allowing direct synaptic control of axonal output. These neurons bypass perisomatic inhibition and participate in distinct hippocampal network oscillations associated with memory consolidation. This project aims to uncover the molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern AcD neuron formation and function, focusing on how neuronal activity influences their development, plasticity, and integration into hippocampal circuits. Using advanced imaging, molecular perturbations, and computational analysis of neuronal morphology and connectivity, the project will bridge cellular mechanisms with network-level function to understand how AcD neurons contribute to information processing in the hippocampus.
